Little girl sleeping
Her ruby cheeks are the colour of innocence
And small tufts of eyelashes peer out
Like strands of grass in a meadow
And a small, scruffy teddy bear
Is tucked beneath her arm
Its little head poked out
Button eyes sowed into pink skin
And a puckered nose coated in swede
As the girl sleeps, the teddy bear continues to smile
A single line tattooed into ruffled material
And when the sun rises from dusk
A steady cigarette burn will roast the sky
And when the girl awakens
She will follow her friend out into the world
Both sharing a smile
