The English Classroom

A HELPFUL GUIDE FOR PRESERVICE TEACHERS

Ever since I was a kid, I have loved writing poetry. I think structure has always been something that was tricky for me, but what has helped is the flashes of images that comes to mind and the economy of words that poems have. Every word counts.

The approach I have to writing poetry is mostly about how words clash or function together. Words have their own connotations. Blend a combination of, seemingly, unrelated words together and you will get a variety of meanings.

In this section, you will find a variety of poems that I have written. Some are entitled “Untitled Poem” followed by a Roman numeral. Others are entitled after an object, signifying the inspiration for the poem.

See below for a fascinating video on what poetry actually is.

Feel free to use them in the classroom if you wish.
