Describing Setting – Graphic Organiser

In a previous post, I outlined how to introduce the setting to students, include the different types of settings. To support this lesson, I have created worksheet that you can use with students.

Below is a two-page document. On the front, students answer questions on a general basis about the types of setting in the text. There are prompts on the left-hand side of the page to guide students in their answers.

On the next page is a graphic organiser designed for students to collate evidence from the text. Based on the quotes they find, they can then describe the different types of setting. In the quotes, students should be locating language features that allude to the representation of setting. This graphic organiser would be suitable if students are planning on writing an essay or extended responses about setting,.
